New EU funded Pobal Project:
“Delivering Lifelong Learning in Disadvantaged Communities”.
Pobal has successfully secured funding from the European Commission to deliver a series of awareness raising events under the EU Programme “Raising Awareness of Lifelong Learning Strategies – Education and Training 2010”.
The project aims to address lifelong learning progress at a national level and to contribute to E.U. learning in the process. The proposal complements both Irish National and EU Lifelong Learning priorities.
Pobal has overall responsibility for rolling out the project and is working collaboratively with the LDSIP Network of Education Personnel and other key partners.
The project will centre on the following two themes:
1) Exploring Early Childhood Education & Family Learning in Disadvantaged Communities
2) Examining Community Based Access as a route to Further and Higher Education
The project will be delivered through a series of awareness raising events around the country consisting of seminars, networking fora and culminating in a national conference based in Dublin. These events will take place between September 2009 and January 2010. The events will consist of:
- Seminars and associated workshops, with one seminar on each theme
- Networking events/fora which will build on the outcomes of the seminars
- A National Conference to address the joint thematic areas, within a lifelong learning context for the benefit of society as a whole
The title of the conference and its precise programme content will evolve from the seminars/networking events and from ongoing collaborations with key partners.
