The Rural Transport Programme has been widely acknowledged as a significant and successful rural development initiative, which places the needs of the most marginalised in our society at its heart. The impact on social inclusion and the quality of life of passengers is very evident from the following case studies. These case studies also highlight how communities and the state can, through local partnerships, provide an integrated approach to essential service delivery, providing greater value for money for the exchequer and a better level of services for rural people.
