On the 18th April 2012  the second Equality For Women Measure (EWM) awards ceremony will take place in Mayo Abbey, for participants of the EWM funded ‘Revival Skills Training and Support programme,’ which is delivered by South West Mayo Development Company. The Equality for Women Measure 2010-2013 is funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) through the Human Capital Investment Operational Programme 2007-2013 and the Department of Justice and Equality.

Minister Kathleen Lynch TD will address the women and make a presentation of FETAC level 3 awards under the “Revival Skills Training and Support programme”. The Revival Skills Training and Support programme is a tailored programme providing women from Ballinrobe and Claremorris who are currently outside the labour market with the social skills, and/or education, and/or training to enable them to enter or return to the labour market.

There are two key elements to the programme: firstly the participants attend a career development training with emphasis on personal and professional development and, on completion of the training, participants are paired with a volunteer mentor who works with them on a one-to-one to achieve their personal goals and ambitions. Training covers key areas addressing confidence building, one-to-one career consultations, skills and background, transferable skills, interview preparation and focused cv’s. Unique to the programme is the support given to each woman through facilitation, discussion and the mentoring process enabling women to realise their potential contribution to the labour market, while all the time moving them closer to the jobs market. In addition, mock interviews are conducted with each woman before and after programme delivery enabling them to measure and assess their own progression.

The programme encompasses several of the elements recently outlined by Minister Joan Burton in the Pathway to Work Initiative. With 42% of women from the first round of EWM funding progressing into employment and education, the initial investment budget of €50,000 gives a strong return.
