Pobal are very pleased to announce that the recently appointed Chief Executive Officer of the organisation, Ms Anna Shakespeare, commenced her position earlier this week.

Ms Shakespeare joins Pobal following a successful tenure as CEO with St. Michael’s House where she oversaw the provision of person centered education, clinical, mental health and social care services to adults and children.

A graduate of University College Dublin (UCD), Anna is a registered nurse and holds bachelor degrees in science and nursing; a post graduate diploma in learning disability studies; a Master’s degree in health services management; and an Honorary Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons.

She has held frontline, clinical and senior managerial positions within the voluntary and statutory mental health and intellectual disability sectors of the Irish and UK Mental Health and Social Care Services over the last 34 years.

Ms Shakespeare has previously undertaken roles with the Department of Health and is a former academic supervisor for Trinity College Dublin and Royal College of Surgeons. Anna is presently a serving Voluntary Board member of the National Federation of Voluntary Bodies and Chairperson of the Federation Board Sub- Committee.

Welcoming Ms Shakespeare, Mr Michael Ring TD, Minister for Rural and Community Development said: “Pobal plays a vital role in the delivery of important services for the Irish public. The role of CEO of Pobal is a demanding one and I want to welcome Anna Shakespeare as she begins her new post.  I am sure she is the right person to lead the organisation over the coming years and I wish her every success in the role.”  

Chairperson of the Pobal Board, Dr Deiric O’Broin said: “On behalf of the Board and staff of Pobal I am delighted to welcome Ms.Anna Shakespeare as our new CEO. She brings her extensive wealth of knowledge and experience working with service users and professionals in hospitals and community settings as well as with government departments and agencies and I look forward to working with her over the coming years.”
